Email Checker – Privacy Policy

Email Checker (“the Extension,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) is a Chrome extension that helps you preview, search, and compose Gmail messages from a compact interface. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and the choices available to you.

1. Information We Collect

We collect the minimum amount of data necessary to provide the Extension’s functionality. All processing happens locally in your browser unless explicitly noted.

1.1 Gmail Data (Read/Modify/Send)

When you connect a Gmail account, the Extension requests OAuth scopes that allow it to:

  • List and read message metadata (subject, sender, snippet, labels, date).
  • Fetch full message bodies and attachments when you open a conversation.
  • Modify labels (e.g., mark as read/starred, move to Trash).
  • Send messages and drafts via Gmail’s API.

Storage: Message contents, attachments, and metadata are not stored on our servers. They remain within the browser’s memory during your session. Temporary caches (e.g., to show recent items) are kept locally in Chrome storage and cleared when you remove the account or the extension.

1.2 Google Profile Data

We request your basic Google profile (name, avatar) to display the active account. This information is stored locally so you can switch between accounts quickly.

1.3 Contact Suggestions

To power auto-complete in the compose field, the Extension locally scans the headers of recent Inbox/Sent/Draft messages and builds an address list. These contacts are not uploaded anywhere and can be cleared by removing the account or uninstalling the Extension.

1.4 Usage Data

We do not use third-party analytics or tracking pixels. Aggregated, anonymized metrics (e.g., number of active accounts) may be stored locally for diagnostics and are never transmitted outside your device.

2. How We Use Information

Collected data is used exclusively to:

  1. Display your Gmail inbox, message content, attachments, and labels.
  2. Execute actions you initiate (reply, forward, mark read/unread, trash, etc.).
  3. Provide compose conveniences such as contact suggestions and attachment handling.
  4. Maintain interface preferences (dark mode, font size, pinned windows).

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties. No ads are shown within the Extension.

3. Data Security

  • Communication with Google’s APIs uses OAuth 2.0 and HTTPS.
  • OAuth tokens are stored via Chrome’s extension storage and protected by the browser.
  • We do not maintain backend servers that persist your Gmail content.
  • If you remove an account or uninstall the Extension, cached data and tokens for that account are deleted.

4. Your Choices & Controls

  • OAuth Revocation: You can revoke access anytime from your Google Account security page.
  • Account Removal: Use the in-app “Remove Account” button to delete local caches and tokens.
  • Uninstall: Removing the Extension deletes all locally stored data related to it.
  • Permissions: The Extension only requests Gmail scopes needed for its core features. You can review and manage permissions in Chrome’s extension settings.

5. Children’s Privacy

The Extension is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will delete it.

6. International Users

Because all processing takes place on your device and through Google’s infrastructure, data protection laws may apply differently depending on your location. By using the Extension, you consent to this localized processing.

7. Updates to This Policy

We may revise this Privacy Policy to reflect product updates or legal requirements. Any changes will be dated at the top of the document. Continued use after updates constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.

8. Contact Us
